Summary:Tissue engineering seeks to provide regenerated tissue architectures in vitro but has not yet successfully created thick, highly vascularized, multi-functional tissues replicating native structure. We have proposed cell sheet engineering to overcome the problems of tissue engineering. And we have focused attention on micropatterned structure of cells in tissue. Therefore we have developed maskless photolithography devices equipped with LCD-projectors to fabricate micropatterned surfaces rapidly and easily. In this paper, we introduce the fabrication technique of cell micropatterns with the maskless photolithography device. And we describe our recent approaches to fabricate vascularized tissue equivalents using cell sheet engineering and the cell micropatterning technique.
