Summary:A 15-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of chest pain. The chest x-ray film and CT scan revealed a large anterior superior mediastinal mass. The serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) value was raised. Percutaneous biopsy of the tumor suggested embryonal carcinoma. The tumor was totally removed. Postoperatively combination chemotherapy including CDDP was performed. However the patient died of tumor recurrence 8 months after operation. AFP is very useful for its diagnosis and the follow-up of the clinical course.
