Regulation of cytotoxic activities of natural killer cells in nasopharyngeal carcinoma: relations to serum interferon concentrations
Serum interferon concentrations and natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxic activity were measured in 66 nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients and in 88 normal subjects. It was found that sera from both normal subjects and NPC patients contained acid-labile alpha interferon, but the concentration in NP...

Summary: | Serum interferon concentrations and natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxic activity were measured in 66 nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients and in 88 normal subjects. It was found that sera from both normal subjects and NPC patients contained acid-labile alpha interferon, but the concentration in NPC patients was significantly lower than that in normal subjects. The lower concentration of acid- labile alpha interferon and deficient interferon response may be the cause of deficient NK cytotoxic activity in NPC patients. |
