Summary:A 67-year-old man developed a recurrence in the trachea and truncus intermedius three years after the operation of squamous-cell lung cancer. After no regression of the recurrent foci with bronchial-arterial infusion (BAI) using cisplatin, the recurrent tumor in the truncus intermedius disappeared completely with an intravenous infusion of docetaxel 80 mg (48 mg/m2). However, a recurrence in the trachea did not disappear even after the second intravenous infusion of docetaxel. Therefore, we treated the patient with BAI using a ten-minute administration of docetaxel (40 mg) to the right bronchial artery and the right 3rd intercostal artery, respectively. Adverse effects of the BAI with docetaxel were grade 1 nausea and slight pain in the right anterior chest. Although the therapy brought about no tumor regression in the trachea, the clinical outcome in this case suggested that BAI with docetaxel is a safe therapy.
