Summary:Trialeurodes vaporariorum is considered to be one of the most important insect pests because it generates noticeable economic losses in several crops worldwide and its control in general depends on repeated applications of conventional synthetic-insecticides; which can generate environmental problems. In this work, lethal and sublethal effects of ethanolic extracts from Ricinus communis, Annona squamosa and Eucalyptus globulus were studied by their potential to affect the population growth of the whitefly, T. vaporariorum. The lethal effects were estimated through an acute toxicity test to obtain dose-response curves and their respective lethal concentrations. Sub-lethal effects were analyzed estimating the instantaneous population growth rate (ri). It was found that lethal and sub-lethal concentrations of R. communis extract were 1.79% and 1.22% of product and 1.12% and 0.89% for A. squamosa, respectively, indicating that this extract could be used for the control of this phytophagous insect. In contrast, lethal and sub-lethal concentrations against E. globulus were 38.1% and 31.18% respectively making difficult its use in insect pest management because of its elevated costs of production. R. communis and A. squamosa extracts shows a high insecticide potential to be considered as an alternative in the integrated management of the whitefly T. vaporariorum.
