Summary:ZF Lemfoder and ZF Sachs together with ZF Friedrichshafen AG developed a Road Load Data Base. ZF Friedrichshafen already uses such a data base for powertrain applications. This data base has been adapted for suspension and steering components. Pre-processed durability load functions for suspension and steering components are collected and sorted. By comparing vehicles with similar parameters it is possible to predict first loads for the design process or to validate loads which were predicted or estimated by the customer. The Road Load Date Base consists of three pillars: UNIdot is a big, self-organizing data management system. Within this system ALOA (Automated Load Analysis) works as a highly automated and flexible analysis tool with a low level of interaction. The laboratory data search system (VERSUS) is used for a fast selection of data. Using some examples taken out of daily practice, the benefit of the Road Load Data Base is shown. In general, its possible to predict working loads and special event loads of vehicles which do not yet exist physically. Therefore, load data of similar vehicles according to characteristic parameters are taken into account to yield load predictions - always being conscious of the uncertainties involved.
