Summary:Technical monuments are important parts of the Ostrava Region as such premises represent a high percentage of the city sights. The technical monuments are remnants of the original industrial premises used in mining or metallurgy, e.g. Lower Vítkovice Complex, Mining Museum in Landek with its Anselm Mine, Michal Mine and its museum, and many coal mining dumps. The article describes selected technical monuments in the City of Ostrava and focuses on their relevance to geoscience and industrial tourism. It also mentions the procedure how a sight or locality may be declared a technical monument, its conditions for operation and financing.
