Summary:The statistical analyses of acoustic values presented in this study, although testifying to differences between the various FPs, do not allow us to derive any conclusions regarding their perceived significance. This finding is a fundamental aspect if there is to be an investigation to evaluate the possible functions and consequences of such differences for an interaction in terms of managing code-switching. The processed data are also useful as a contribution to the discussion concerning the lexical nature of FPs. However, although not enabling us to resolve the issue unequivocally by stating that it is a question of words, the presence of a language-specific and stable significance in each language and the apparent presence of an interactional meaning that can be associated to it enables us to at least reject these elements as being non-linguistic.
