Summary:An investigation was conducted to determine some of the barriers that impede faculty members' involvement in grant activities. Data were collected via structured interviews with selected college of education faculty members at the University of New Orleans during the 1988-1989 academic year. Respondents indicated that the greatest impediment was a lack of information about funding sources. Other problems frequently mentioned included: 1. time constraints, 2. absence of a system of rewards for those pursuing grants, 3. lack of technical assistance, 4. lack of budgetary expertise, and 5. lack of administrative support. Several of the faculty interviewees regarded lack of political connections as a major impediment to their grant-related activities.
