Summary:This paper analyzes the labor market changes that have occurred in recent decades in Brazilian metropolitan areas, based on data from the Survey of Employment and Unemployment -- in Portuguese, PED. In discussing the evolution of the Working Age Population, the Economically Active Population and Employed Population, conditions of employment, unemployment and average income of workers, it seeks to demonstrate how there was a real breakdown of the labor market in the 1990s, interrupted in recent years, but without overcoming occupational precariousness and vulnerability of a significant portion of the population of these cities.
