Summary: | An integrated computer-aided engineering (CAE) system can be a useful tool, assisting engineers with many engineering and operational activities. It can also be used to manage the massive amount of information created throughout the life of a plant. Duke Power Co. and EA Systems Inc. have developed a CAE system for the design, construction, and operation of power plants. Duke Power began using the system to help manage plant design modification projects in 1988. Recently, the utility developed a modeling program for one of its nuclear power plants. By storing plant informantion in a central repository, search times are reduced because information is easier to find. Productivity benefits also are anticipated by creating several required documents from the common base of information. Plans are to continue to expand the system to support Duke's operating plants with an emphasis on identifying operations requirements for plant information. |
