Summary: | Gryllus bimaculatus (GB) is known to have a high protein content and high levels of valine, leucine, and isoleucine. For these reasons, GB is being proposed as a new food resource. A GB methanol extract and fractions resulted in a concentration-dependent increase in the scavenging activity of DPPH, ABTS, and xanthine-derived superoxide radicals. Moreover, the ethyl acetate fraction showed the best scavenging activity. The GB ethyl acetate fraction (GEF) increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase activities in a dose-dependent manner in Caenorhabditis elegans. This fraction significantly inhibited the production of reactive oxygen species accumulated in the nematodes, and GEF increased the survival rate of nematodes for up to 34 hours under oxidative stress conditions. SOD-3 is a type of SOD, and a green fluorescent protein was attached to it. The expression level of SOD-3::GFP was increased in a dose-dependent manner.
Additionally, heat stress resistance increased with an increasing concentration of GEF when culturing C.elegans at 36oC. KCI Citation Count: 2 |
