유치환의 만주시편에 형상화된 공간의 양상과 의미

청마 유치환의 만주시편은 그의 창작초기에서 중기로 넘어가는 변곡점에 위치하며, 청마의 시정신이 가장 치열하게 전개된 지점으로 많은 연구자들의 연구가 있어 왔다. 통영을 탈출하여 만주로 이거한 원인에 대해서는 그간 ‘지사형 도피설’과 ‘개인형 도주설’이 있어왔는데, 본고에서는 그 보다는 오히려 정신적인 원인의 결과라고 분석하였다. 열린 공간인 ‘광야’를 오히려 닫힌 공간 ‘절도’로 인식하고, 그는 재탈주의 욕망을 보였다. 이는 수동적⦁비진정성인 주관으로 인하여 닫힌 공간으로 형상화되었고, 기행시에 있어서도 자신을 스스로 타자화하여 무장소성⦁장소상실의 모습에 이르게 되었다고 보았다. 탈주의 욕망을 이룰 수 없었던 그는 반대급부로 후방인 가정공간을 안식의 공간, 도피의 공간으로 삼고자 하였다. 그의 가정공간은 천상의 우주와 연결된 신성한 공간으로 형상화되었다. Yoo Chi-Hwan’s Manchurian poems are positioned at a critical juncture between his early and middle periods, and many researchers conducted extensive studies on this particular juncture, which represents the pinnacle of Yoo Chi-hwan’s poetic spirit. Regarding the reason for his relocation from Tongyeong to Manchuria, there are different views. Some contend that he left his hometown due to the watchful eye of the Japanese police, while others maintain that it was a result of personal faults. However, this paper argues that his decision to leave his hometown was driven rather a consequence of his own psychological motivations which were driven by a sense of melancholy determination, aiming to secure his family’s well-being, achieve personal success, and break free from colonial constraints. However, upon arriving in Manchuria, his perspective changed. He perceived the vast expanse of the Manchurian wilderness as a closed space, akin to ‘an isolated island,’ reigniting his desire to escape. This passive and inauthentic subjectivity led to the portrayal of a closed space, resulting in a sense of placelessness as he projected himself onto others in his travel poetry. Unable to fulfill his escape desire, he sought to transform the home space into a place of solace and refuge, depicting it as a sacred realm connected to the celestial universe. KCI Citation Count: 0
