특수교육 자유학기제에 대한 국내연구 동향

연구목적: 본 연구는 자유학기제 실시 이후 특수교육 분야에서 이루어진 연구들을 분석함으로써 자유학기제에 대해 특수교육 분야에서는 어떠한 연구들이 어떠한 방식으로 수행되었고 이러한 연구들의 특성은 무엇이며, 앞으로의 연구가 지향해야 할 점은 무엇인지 등을 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 2013년부터 2020년까지의 학술지 논문들을 ‘자유학기’, ‘자유학년’, ‘특수’, ‘장애’ 등의 키워드로 검색하였고 최종적으로 15편의 논문들이 분석대상이 되었다. 기존 논문을 참고하여 ‘연구방법’ 등 분석기준을 마련하였고 이에 따라 대상 논문들을 분석하였다. 연구결과: 연구대상은 주로 특수학교 교사였으며, 연구방법으로는 ‘설문조사’가 대다수를 차지하였고, 연구주제는 ‘인식’, ‘개선요구’, 그리고 ‘실태’ 등을 가장 많이 다루고 있었다. 결론: 1) 제도 자체에 대한 비판적 연구, 2) 학생 및 학부모 대상 연구, 3) 특수학급 관련 연구, 그리고 4) 장애영역별 연구 등과 같은 그동안 미흡했던 연구들이 수행될 필요가 있음을 제안하였다. 이와 함께 자유학기제가 특수교육 분야에서 정착하기 위해 필요한 연구들에 대해 논의하였다. Purpose: This study analyzed the research on the Free Semester System in the field of special education and explored the type of research conducted, the research methodology employed, the characteristics and the future direction of research etc. Method: Research outputs released from 2013 to 2020 were searched using key words such as ‘free semester’, ‘free year’, ‘special’, and ‘disability’, subsequently 15 theses and research articles were selected as the subject of analysis. Based on existing articles, the analysis criteria were established and all 15 theses and research articles were analyzed. Results: The main participants were special school teachers, no research was conducted with students with disabilities and/or parents. Considering the research methodology employed, ‘survey’ was the most frequent. Furthermore, most research dealt with ‘awareness’, ‘improvement demand’, ‘actual conditions’, and ‘effect’ regarding the Free Semester System in the field of special education. Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest that it is necessary to handle themes found to be insufficient, such as the following: ‘critical research about the Free Semester System itself’, ‘research with students with disabilities and/or parents’, ‘research as to the Free Semester System in special class’, and ‘research related to the Free Semester System by disability area’.
