오정희의 「중국인 거리」에 담긴 여성상(女性像) 연구

오정희의「중국인 거리」는 현모양처 담론이 국가적으로 강조되는 한편에서, 여성운동가들이 여성 해방에 대한 논의를 시작하던 시점에 나온 작품이다. 현모양처 담론은 결혼 제도 안에 있는 여성의 가장 중요한 덕목으로 임신과 출산이라고 하는 생물학적 기능을 내세움으로써 여성들을 독립된 인격체가 아니라 생산하는 도구로서 간주하고, 가정 안에 제한시키는 구조를 가지고 있다. 「중국인 거리」에 제시된 여러 유형의 여성상은 여성들이 강요된 모성으로 인해 주체의 위치가 아니라 대상의 위치에 남게 된다는 점에서 ‘타자성’의 속성을 지니며, 이로 인해 결여・잉여・과잉이라고 하는 왜곡된 형태의 재생산을 할 수밖에 없는 존재임을 드러낸다. ‘나’는 중국인 남자의 시선을 의식하게 되면서, 타자성을 축으로 하는 반성적 주체가 되어 주변 여성들의 삶을 대면하고, 자신과의 차이 속에서 여성으로서의 자기 정체성을 찾아가기 시작한다. ‘초조(初潮)’의 시작에 앞서 어머니를 호명함으로써, 주체적 여성이 된다는 것은 어머니 세대와의 단절을 의미하는 것이 아니라 상호 주체로서 이전 세대와 서로 포용하는 관계로부터 시작될 수 있는 것임을 제시하고 있다. Oh Jeong-hee's “The Chinese Street" is a work that published at the time when feminists began discussing women's liberation, while the discourse of the wise mother and good wife was emphasized by the Government nationally. The discourse of the Wise mother and Good wife considers women not as independent human being but as a means of producing and has a structure that restricts women to the family. It emphasizes the biological functions of pregnancy and childbirth as the most important virtue of women in the marriage system. The various types of women's images in “The Chinese Street" have the otherness in that women are left not in the position of the subject but in the position of the object due to forced motherhood. And It reveals that they are forced to reproduce inevitably distorted production because of their otherness. As ‘I’ become conscious of the Chinese man's gaze, 'I' become a reflective subject based on the otherness, face the lives of the women around me, and begin to search for my identity as a woman in the difference with myself.
