Summary:The effect of ultrasonication (US) together with quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants (QACS) treatment on the physicochemical properties of ginkgo nut starch (GNS) films was investigated. Combined treatment with QACS and US slightly decreased the tensile strength (TS) of GNS films, and increased their elongation at break (EB) compared with control films. As increase of more than 20% was observed in the EB of GNS film treated with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and US, while its TS remained similar to that of control films. GNS film optical properties were also improved by treatment with QACS and US. Combined treatment also decreased the moisture content, water vapor permeability, and water solubility of the GNS films to a greater extent compared to US treatment alone, indicating maintenance of water resistance. The internal structure and thermal stability of the GNS films were not significantly altered by the combined treatment. Overall, these results suggest that a combination of QACS and US can improve the physicochemical properties of GNS films. KCI Citation Count: 0
