Summary:Floor heating has been used as a typical heating system in residential buildings, particularly in Korea. Several studies have been conducted on the systems especially for optimal control, since the control of the systems is not trivial for their high thermal capacities. This study also proposes a method for modeling floor-heating systems for their control. A lumped thermal-resistance (R) and heat-capacity (C) model is proposed, and an optimization method is combined to maintain accuracy in a low-order model scheme. The parameters of the RC model are set as unknown values, and the PSO (particle swarm optimization) method is used to fit the model to the reference results, which show that the proposed model is in good agreement with the reference and with previously developed models.
