Summary:Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the possibility of sensor module aiming at estimating occupant's metabolic rate as a preliminary step for developing sensor modules. The possibility is considered by understanding not only policies but recent research trends and sensor market status. Methods: In order to accomplish the purpose, 1) the domestic and foreign sensor market and policy status are surveyed, 2) previous studies in the related fields are investigated, and 3)The applicability of sensors and sensor modules in the fields of architecture is investigated and theoretical concepts are studied. Results : Based on the analysis of the theories and technologies, the fundamental technology is determined which is applicable to estimate the occupant's metabolic rate. Through the sufficient surveys, it is possible to maximize data collection speed and extendability by utilizing various small sensors including camera sensors related to the MET output. In addition, the possibility of developing an intelligent ultra-small sensor modules consisted of open-source hardware of Raspberry Pi and Arduino with accessibility of IoT environment is identified.
