Growth performances of 12 provenances originated from Southeast US were investigated in Wanju, Korea. Pitch-loblolly hybrid pine (Pinus rigida x P. taeda) was planted as comparisons. Analyses of variance for all the growth performances(height, D.B.H., volume growth and slenderness ratio) at the age of 30 were significantly different among provenances. Volume growth of loblolly pine was 1.3 times higher than pitch-loblolly hybrid pine. Latitude and longitude of seed origins were not significantly different with growth characteristics. Growth performances of southern provenances were generally better than those of other provenances. Averages of height, D.B.H. and volume growth were 15.6 m, 25.0 cm and 0.369 m3, respectively. Worcester Mass., Greene Ga. and Berkeley S.C. provenances were proved to be superior provenances, especially average individual tree volume growth of them was over 0.4 m3. A range of slenderness ratio was from 54.4% to 70.4% (average 64.6%). It means that diameter growth was better than height growth in Wanju test plantation. When the top 50% provenances based on the volume growth were selected considering the survival rate, we could expect that genetic gain for volume growth and survival rate would be 12.9% and 9.1%, respectively.
