잠재성을 갖는 조각의 불확정성 연구 -‘주사위 놀이’ 연작을 중심으로

본 연구는 2017년《주사위 던지기》, 2021년《주사위 놀이》, 2022년의《열린 주사위》세 번의 전시를 통해 선보인 연구자의 주사위 연작에서 발견되는 관객의 참여로 인해 변화가 가능한 형태의 조각표현에 초점을 맞춰 새로운 의미 작용을 가능하게 하는 조각의 잠재성에 관해 다룬다. 동시대의 예술작품은 시대적 현실에 열려 있다. 시대적 현실은 특정 의미로 규정될 수 없고 가변적이며 순간적이고 불연속적이며 불확실한 것들로 이루어진다. 연구자는 이러한 우연성과 불확정성을 작업의 주된 조형 언어로 설정한다. 이 연구는 작가의 손에서 완결된 조각이 어떻게 불확정성 속에서 생성과 변화에 열려 있게 되는지를 다각적으로 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 방법은 연구자의 비결정적 조각 작업 전반에 적용된 ‘애매모호함’을 가능하게 하는 열린 예술작품의 형식 형성과 구조의 과정을 검토하였으며, 예술이 놀이로 가능하게 됨을 증명하기 위해 니체와 들뢰즈의 놀이 철학에서 나타나는 긍정과 차이의 이론을 연구자의 주사위 놀이에 적용하여 살펴보았다. 또한, 조각이 완결된 형태 속에서도 변화와 생성의 ‘잠재성’을 가질 수 있음을 밝히기 위해 동·서양의 비교철학을 다루는 니스벳과 줄리앙의 이론 속 ‘관계론’과 가시와 비가시의 상호작용을 통해 연구자 작업을 해석하였다. 긍정적 놀이로서의 주사위 던지기는 매번 특이성 주변에서 우연의 전체를 연주하기에 연구자는 주사위가 보여주는 결과로서의 존재가 아닌 던지는 행위에 주목한다. 확정된 형태의 규정짓기가 아닌 구르기의 실행으로 이해되는 주사위의 조형 형식을 살펴보는 과정을 통해 생성과 변화의 힘을 갖는 조각은 물질적 형식과 의미론적 내용으로 열려 있음을 확인함에 이 연구의 미학적 의의가 있다. The present study explores the potential of sculpture to provide novel significance, focusing on how the expression of sculpture can be transformed by audience participation as demonstrated in three exhibitions:《Cast the Dice, 2017》, 《Play Dice, 2021》, and 《The Open Dice, 2022》. The contemporary artworks are open to the realities of their times. The realities of their times can not be defined in a specific sense, and their notable features are variable, mementary, discontinous and uncertain. The researcher establish such contingency and uncertainty as the moulding language. The major contents of the current research reflects upon the formative structures of undetermined forms demonstrated in sculpture works by a researcher, and aim at analyzing from various perspectives how the sculpture completed in the hands of a sculptor can be subject to opening toward the formation and change among the indeterminacy. The method of the research includes the overall review of the open works of art which make the ambiguities applied throughout the works understandable, and applied the theory of positivity and difference manifested in the philosophy of Nietzsche and Deleuze to the researcher’s dice play in order to prove the possibility as the art. In addition, the researcher referred to the relationship theory and the interactions of visibility and invisibility shown in the theory of Nisbett and Julien which deals with the comparative philosophy of the East and the West about the potential of the works, in the process of collaborating with the audience. The rolling dice all the time performs the whole of the coincidence in a specific circumstance. The researcher took notice of the act of rolling the dice not as a result of which the dice itself demonstrates its existence. The current work has the aesthetic value in that the sculpture featured with the power of the formation and change in its structure confirms the materialistic forms and semantic content through the process of examining the moulding of the dice.
