여성 근로자의 출산 의지와 노동 환경: 거시적 신자유주의 경제 질서 속 미시적 근무 환경을 중심으로

본 논문은 변화하는 재생산 문화를 이해하기 위한 시도로서, 근로자로서의 정체성을 지닌 여성과 이들이 처한 근로환경이 임신 및 출산에 대한 의지 형성에 중요한 역할을 끼친다고 주장한다. 우선 거시적 스케일에서, Claudia Goldin의 연구를 참고하여 한국사회의 생산 영역 변화가 재생산 영역의 변화로 어떻게 이어지게 되었는지를 분석하였다. 미시적 스케일에서는 심층 인터뷰를 통해 개인의 노동 환경이 임신, 출산 의지 형성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 한국 사회는 압축적 근대화 및 신자유주의적 전환 과정을 거치며 생산 영역에서 급격한 변화를 경험하였고, 이는 사회의 생존 단위가 핵가족 중심에서 개인 중심으로 전환되는 데 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 변화 속에서 여성 근로자의 재생산에 대한 의지는 미시적인 근무 환경에 따라 유동적으로 변화한다. 재생산의 문화 변동은 개인이 속한 거시-미시적 사회경제적 환경과 밀접한 연관을 맺고 있음에도 불구하고, 지리학에서는 이에 대한 연구가 부족했다. 본 연구는 재생산 문화 변동과 생산영역의 구조적 변동 간 관계성을 다각적 스케일에서 밝히고, 환경적 요인의 중요성을 포착함으로써 지리적 접근의 유효성을 제시했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. This study aims to understand the changing reproductive culture in South Korea. I argue that women who identify as workers and their working environments play crucial roles in shaping their reproductive will. At the macro scale, I analyzed the relationship between the productive and reproductive domains. Drawing on Claudia Goldin’s work on career and family, I examined how economic structural transforamtion influence changes in reproductive culture in Korean society. At the microscale, I explored how workplace environments impact individuals’ reproductive decisions regarding pregnancy and childbirth through in-depth interviews. Korean soiety has experienced rapid industrial transformation through the processes of ‘compressed modernity’ and an ‘abrupt neoliberal turn.’ These shifts redefined the unit of societal survival, shifting focus from the the nuclear family to the individuals. In this context, female workers’ reproductive will becomes flexible and contingent upon the micro-scale labor environments. Despite the close relationship between reproductive cultural transformation and socio-economic environment in both macro and micro scales, geography has paid relatively little attention to this topic. This study highlights the value of geographic approach by revealing the interconnectedness of reproductive and productive cultures across multiple scales.
