해외진출 벤처기업의 R&D협력의 결정요인에 관한 연구

Venture firms may contribute to enhance the dynamic changes, restructure Korea's industry and economy, and create new jobs based on disruptive technological innovation. This study is to identify the antecedents of R&D cooperation in Korean venture firms from the perspective of strategic management, resource-based theory and organizational learning. The R&D-based technological innovation of venture companies is a firm specific core competency that directly influences on competitive advantage. In this research, R&D cooperation is divided into vertical cooperation within value chain and horizontal cooperation with outside value chain. Then, the determinant factors of R&D cooperation such as market conditions, CEO characteristics, and organizational capabilities were tested. The key findings from empirical analysis of Korean global venture firms are as follow. First, market dynamics had a significant effect on R&D cooperation, both in vertical and horizontal R&D collaboration. This suggests that external market conditions impact on R&D collaboration scope. Second, it was also confirmed that CEO global-orientation also influences on R&D Collaboration. Third, learning capability and financial slacks played a role to reinforce R&D cooperation. Finally, some different factors should be considered as key enabling factors to expand vertical and horizontal R&D collaboration. This study is so meaningful to provide the implications for strategic decision-making in R&D collaboration and identify the key driving factors on activities of R&D cooperation in Korean international venture organizations. This research will contribute to create an industrial ecosystem by suggesting a growth path and enhancing the fundamental competitiveness of Korean global venture companies through R&D collaboration. 벤처기업은 기술혁신 역량이 경쟁력의 원천이므로 주요 이해관계자들과의 R&D협력에 대한 관심이 높다. 본 연구는 전략경영과 자원준거이론, 학습이론의 관점에서 우리나라 해외진출 벤처기업의 R&D협력에 영향을 미치는 내·외부 요인을 규명하고자 한다. R&D협력은 기술역량을 강화하기 위한 이해관계자들과의 연구개발 협업으로 외부시장의 특성, 경영자 및 내부역량과의 상호관계를 실증적으로 검증하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 외부의 경영환경관점에서 빠르게 변화하는 시장의 역동성은 R&D협력을 확대하는 요인으로 작용하는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 조직 내 최고경영자의 혁신지향성은 R&D협력에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았으나 글로벌지향성은 긍정적인 영향요인으로 분석되었다. 셋째, 조직역량관점에서 학습역량과 재무여력은 모두 R&D협력에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미침을 확인하였다. 넷째, 가치사슬을 기준으로 하여 수직적·수평적 R&D협력으로 구분하여 영향요인을 분석한 결과 일부 상이한 점을 확인하였다. 시장의 역동성과 재무여력은 수직적·수평적 R&D협력에 모두 영향을 미쳤으나 경영자의 글로벌지향성은 수직적 R&D협력, 학습역량은 수평적 R&D협력에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 결론적으로 벤처기업의 R&D협력의 추진에는 시장역동성, 경영자의 글로벌지향성, 학습역량 및 재무여력 등 내·외부 요인이 영향을 미치며 유형에 따라 상이하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 우리나라 벤처기업의 기술혁신 기반 R&D협력의 선행요인을 규명함으로써 R&D협력의 활동범위를 확대하기 위한 요건에 대한 시사점의 제시에 의미가 있으며 이는 벤처기업의 본원적 경쟁력 제고와 산업 생태계의 조성에 기여할 것이다.
