Summary: | Guo Ju become one of the famous filial piety in China by the behavior which buried his son for his mother, with the idea that “I may give birth to another baby, but I cannot restore your mother to life again.”
The formation and development of this story experience a long time. Those are praising it believe that it is always good to promote filial piety. Those are criticizing his behavior for four reasons. First, filial piety to parents is not in the food, but in accepting their will. Second Choosing between filial piety to parents and love for children. Third, having no male heir is the gravest of the three cardinal offences against filial piety. Fourth, doubt the sincerity of his behavior.
This paper compares the praise and condemnation of Guo Ju's behavior in China, and in doing so, discusses the question of what is true filial piety. |
