Summary:The purpose of the present study was to analyze how much primary and secondary English education are connected for the 7th grade students to learn English efficiently as they make a transition to an upper school level. For this purpose, English curricula of the primary and secondary education were reviewed and three primary English classes and three secondary English classes were observed. The classes were analyzed in terms of teaching and learning activities, interaction between the teacher and students, tasks for students, and use of classroom English. The results showed that the English curricula of primary and secondary levels were related with spiral learning goals and tasks. However, some discrepancy as well as connectivity between the primary and secondary English classes were found from the lesson observations. Based on the findings, teaching models to support the connectivity of primary and secondary English classes were developed. Limitations of the study and suggestions for further research were also discussed.
