Summary:A methane oxidation bioreactor (MOB) was combined with a conventional wastewater treatment process(A/O, O/A). In this system, some treated water returned to the MOB reactor for the formation of COD and the assimilation of nutrients. Then, the MOB effluent returned to the anoxic reactor to improve the removal efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorous. Here, the nitrogen concentration in the effluent was 4.0 mg/L as T-N and 2.0 mg/L as phosphate when the return ratio of MOB effluent to anoxic reactor was 0.24 Q. These indicate that the removal efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorous were 2.0 times and 3.6 time higher than the conventional treatment system, respectively. Therefore, by inflowing the some effluent from oxic/anoxic processes to form carbon compounds and returning them to anoxic reactor, both enhanced efficiency of denitrification and removal of nitrate and phosphate in MOB((methan oxidation bacteria) reactor were possible. As a result, it was first demonstrated that combining the MOB reactor with anoxic reactor enhances the denitrification efficiency and simultaneous removal of phosphorous. KCI Citation Count: 1
