Summary: | Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of line dance and walking on cardiovascular disease risk factors in obese elderly women. Methods: Subjects consisted of 102 elderly women (i.e., 51 women in the experimental group and 51 women in the comparison group) who had a body mass index over 25 kg/㎡. Participants in the experimental group performed line dance (i.e., sixty minutes session, three times a week for 8 weeks), and participants in the comparison group performed walking (i.e., forty to sixty minutes session, three times a week for 8 weeks). Outcome variables were body mass index, body fat percentage, blood pressure, blood lipids, and stress. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, paired t-test, and ANCOVA with the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: The participants in the experimental group showed significantly increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (t=-3.12, p=.002) and decreased scores of stress (t=2.59, p=.011) compared to the comparison group. Conclusion: Line dance improved high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and reduced the stress level of obese older women in the community. |
