Summary:The purpose of this study was to investigate high school teachers’ perceptions on the EBS textbook which has been widely used by CSAT(College Scholastic Ability Test) takers and also used even in regular class hours of high schools in Korea. The perceptions include the extent to which EBS textbook was aligned with national curriculum, how high qualitative excellence it was recognized by high school teachers comparing to other commercial textbooks, how widely it was used in regular school classrooms and in formal assessment, and what effect it made to their students in terms of the subject-learning abilities and self-directed learning. This study also explored the ways of improving the quality of the textbook based on the teachers’perceptions. Survey was administered to 714 teachers including 138 English subject teachers through 17 provinces and metropolitan cities nationwide. The survey was analysed and presented by comparing the results of English subject area with those of CSAT 6 subjects in total. The findings of the study revealed several positive and negative perceptions on the use of EBS textbook, based on which some suggestions were provided for improving its quality along with the ways of contributing to public education as well.
