Summary:The isolation of varicella-zoster virus from the vesicles of the external ear of 13 patients with HUNT'S syndrome was attempted. Among above patients, the CSF of 3 cases was also used in this study. Varicella-zoster virus was isolated from the vesicles of the external ear of twe patients (30-year-old female and 56-year-old male), whose antibody titers against the same virus significantly elevated in the paired sera. Thus, we have directly confirmed the fact that HUNT'S syndrome could be caused by varicella-zoster virus infection, as predicted by the authors and the other investigators.
