Summary: | A clinical analysis was conducted of seven alaryngeal patients who had undergone tracheo-esophageal puncture (TEP) with Provox® 2 over a 2-year period. The patients consisted of 6 males and 1 female, ranging in age from 49 to 83 years old (mean age, 61 years). The underlying diseases were laryngeal carcinoma in 2 cases and hypopharyngeal carcinoma in 5 cases. All the TEP procedures were performed as secondary operations under general anesthesia. The average operation time was 20 minutes (range, 7 to 43 minutes). QOL analysis was also performed using the revised edition of the Japanese Voice Handicap Index (VHI). |
