An operative case presenting with radiculopathy due to osteoid osteoma in the pedicle of cervical spine

Summary:Osteoid osteoma often occurs in young men under the age of 20 and appears in many long trunk bones. It does not grow larger than 15 mm in diameter. Prostaglandin materials related to osteoid osteoma induces local tissue edema even in small osteomas. We describe the case of a 17-year-old woman who presented with cervical pain and radiculopathy due to osteoid osteoma close to the cervical pedicle. We opted for surgical treatment to treat her symptoms. Open surgery was performed under CT guidance for the safe and correct removal of tumor, because a less invasive ablation technique under CT or MRI guidance may injure surrounding nerves and vessels.
