Summary:The purpose of this study is to examine the reliability and validity of The Japanese language version of the Oxford Hip Score (OHS). The scale has been developed to measure Quality of life (QOL) of Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) patients. The OHS was translated into Japanese, and back translation was performed. Effective responses were obtained from 173 subjects (the collection rate: 97.5% & the valid answer rate: 86.9%) There mean age was 60.7 years (SD=12.3). The subjects were THA patients within three years. In terms of internal reliability, the results were sufficient (Cronbach's alpha was 0.91). In terms of criterion related validity , the Spearman correlation coefficient showed 0.60 and 0.69 between The Japanese language version of the OHS the SF-36v2 (PF, RP, BP). Therefore, this study suggests that the Japanese-language version of the OHS is generally an efficient tool for clinical use.
