Summary:A 69-year-old female developed meningitis. She was given antibiotic therapy for 2 weeks. At that time, her cerebrospinal fluid cultures were negative but her blood cultures were positive for Streptococcus bovis. A colonoscopy revealed advanced carcinoma of the sigmoid colon and she underwent a sigmoidectomy, (ss, n1, H0, P0, M(-) ; Stage IIIa). It is important to remember that there is an association between Streptococcus bovis bacteremia and colorectal cancer. Therefore, patients with this type of bacteremia should be appropriately investigated.
