Summary: | We report a case of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) with intussusception of the small intestine. A 30-year-old man was admitted to hospital with abdominal pain and vomiting. Abdominal CT scan demonstrated a mass of the small intestine located in the pelvis. Surgery confirmed the presence of intussusception. An invagination of the ileum, 42 cm in length, located about 10 cm proximal to the terminal ileum was found ; it was caused by an elastic hard tumor. Ileocecal resection was perfomed. On histology, proliferation of spindle-shaped mesenchymal cells was noted. Tumor cells were partially positive for c-kit, positive for CD34, negative for α-smooth muscle actin, and negative for S-100 protein. The tumor was diagnosed as a GIST. GIST with intussusceptions of the small intestine is extremely rare. GIST should be considered in the differential diagnosis of intussusception. |
