Summary:The aim of this paper is to quantify the effect of track irregularity on the dynamic response of railway bridges during train passage. Literature survey results found that the standard deviation of the vertical track irregularity of recent general track condition in Japan is about 3 mm for conventional lines and about 1.5 mm for Shinkansen. Numerical simulations considering vehicle / bridge dynamic interactions and the track irregularity as a stochastic model using Monte Carlo method were carried out. An impact coefficient of track irregularity was proposed as a function of the speed parameter and the irregularity amplitude so that the non-exceeding probability is approximately 95% for the calculated results.
