Summary:We have studied organic TFTs (OTFTs) made from a liquid crystalline organic semiconductor of C13-BTBT to clarify the influence of the atmosphere on TFT operations. OTFTs fabricated by solution processes are electrically characterized under various ambient gases. It is proved that electric properties, such as field-effect-mobility, of the OTFTs strongly depend on the species of ambient gases. OTFTs kept in oxygen show a gradual decrease and then increase in the mobility, and further the mobility of OTFTs kept in the gas containing oxidizer is drastically improved with storage time, which is a similar behavior of OTFTs kept in the air under the light illumination. These results suggest the light-enhanced oxidation play an important role to improve electrical properties of OTFTs of C13-BTBT.
