Summary:We have investigated manufacturing the color filter for liquid crystal display using cholesteric liquid crystal with photosensitive chiral compounds. We selected the (E)-cinnamates of isosorbide or isomannide as photosensitive chiral compounds because the HTPs(Helical Twisting Power) before photo-irradiation were similarly high. On the other hand, after photo-irradiation, the HTP of isosorbide derivative was lower than the HTP of isomannide derivative. We synthesized all geometric isomers of these compounds and obtained HTPs.
