Summary: | A novel organic-inorganic hybrid thermotropic liquid crystal with thermotropic cubic mesophases is developed by the hybridization of organic dendrons having an amino-group with COOH-modified spherical gold nanoparticles with narrow size distributions. Small angle X-ray scattering and DSC measurements reveal that the hybrids show thermotropic cubic mesophases in wide ranges of temperatures. Effects of the generation of the dendrons, amount of carboxyl groups, and the monodispersity on the formation of the thermotropic mesophases have been investigated. This technique would lead to development of novel-type of dynamic functional materials with color-controllable or light insulating-transmitting property. |
