Summary:“ICRP2023” was held in Tokyo from November 7 to 9, 2023, with 708 participants from 59 countries. Attendees held lively discussions for the next updating of the ICRP main recommendations that is scheduled for 2030. The Radiological Nursing Society of Japan presented four topics as poster displays: 1) classification of nurses as radiation workers and radiological protection practices; 2) an introduction to NuHAT (Nuclear Disaster Health Assistance Team); 3) radiological nursing in nursing education; and 4) the establishment of dose limits for female radiation workers in Japanese radiation protection regulations. Discussions throughout the symposium focused on two issues. The first was the experiences of the professionals involved in radiological protection and the general public, including especially those experiences during the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. The second was how to communicate with stakeholders in order to consider various social values, not limited to strict scientific evidence, when establishing the system of radiological protection in the next recommendations. The symposium suggested the strong need for radiological nursing societies and nursing professionals around the world to be actively involved in radiological protection.
