Summary:Seventy-eight cases of carcinoma of the maxillary sinus treated at the Department of Otorhinolaryn gology, University of the Ryukyus Faculty of Medicine from 1973 to 1986 were reviewed. The five-year crude survival rates for stage I + II, stage III and stage IV were 50%, 41% and 9%, respectively, with a total survival rate of 30%. Recommendations to promote optimal rates of survival at our department include aggressive treatment with surgery accompanied by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
