Summary:114 cases of foreign bodies treated in the Kyushu Welfare Pension Hospital Otorhinolaryngological Clinic, from 1955 to 1966 were reviewed. 12 cases were in the trachea and bronchus, 43 in the esophagus, 29 in the pharynx, 12 in the nasal cavity and 18 in the external auditory meatus. Foreign bodies in the trachea and bronchus and in the esophagus were predominantly in the case of male: the ratio of male to female was 1.5: 1. The age range of this series was almost under 5 years. The material of foreign bodies in the trachea and bronchus was varied, but in the esophagus coin in many cases. Some rare cases of foreign bodies were referred to: tulcum powder in the trachea and bronchus, sweet potato dumpling and a dental prothesis in the bronchus and double coins in the esophagus.
