Summary:Vascular grafts were implanted in the abdominal aorta of 39 adult mongrel dogs (14.07±3.24kg) using synthetic absorbable suture materials, that is polygiycolic acid (PGA) and polydioxanon (PDS), and nonabsorbable polypropylene (PP) as a control. The macroscopic findings and the histologic examination showed that the anastomotic sites using absorbable suture materials have healed better marphologicaily than that using PP. There was no evidence of suture line disruptions or aneurysm formation and any deffernces between PGA and PP in tensil strengh and bursting pressure were not observed at 12 months after implantation. The autnors concluded that syntheic absorbable suture materials such as PGA, PDS are safty and useful in small vascular anastomosis.
