Summary:During plane magnetic abrasive machining in a conventional milling system, the rotating magnetic poles are arranged perpendicular to the plane of the workpiece. In this case, it is impossible maintaining stable polishing performance for a long period of time due to clogging, which occurs in the absence of stirring action on the supplied magnetic abrasive. Therefore, this study investigated utilizing the axis inclination of the rotating magnetic poles to obtain a stirring effect and the effect of axis inclination on polishing characteristics. The results showed that introduction of axis inclination allowed stable polishing performance for a long period of time. Furthermore, we investigated a polishing method in which the axis direction was not fixed, and the axis inclination direction varied according to the feed direction of the workpiece.
