Summary: | In 1978, Joe Strummer adapted the red T-shirt of campaign group Rock Against Racism with the stencilled logo of Rote Armee Fraktion enclosed in the words ‘Brigade [sic] Rosse’. The customised garment, referring to both the German and Italian terrorist groups, is clearly visible in a few scenes of the film Rude Boy shot at the Rock Against Racism festival on 30 April 1978.² It is the same T-shirt that Strummer, it was rumoured, intended to wear on stage in Bologna in 1980.³ At the time, Italy was at a crossroads: the shadow of Anni di Piombo⁴ terrorism still lingered, |
