Summary:Th e collectivist conceptions of human cognition—the claims that cognition is predetermined by participation in groups such as cultures, social contexts, or ethnicities—have significant implications for the conception of reality. If individuals from different groups are equipped with radically different cognitive capacities, their beliefs about reality may not merely differ while reality stays the same. Rather, all beliefs or knowledge that one may have, including the belief that there is a reality, may result from one’s participation in a collective. Reality, like everything else, becomes a social construct. Such an antirealist position (as it is oft en called)
