Summary:Distance learning environments are experiencing exponential growth. The effectiveness of these environments continues to be debated, especially in terms of student learning. This issue, as well as the needs of a diverse audience of safety professionals, were central concerns addressed in the development of distance education courses in Safety Sciences at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). This article describes the methods employed to develop these courses and reviews findings based on course delivery.
