Summary:The Bibliored network, a new online public library network, is making public libraries an essential factor in expanding democracy and equality in Montevideo. Through the network's establishment, the capital city of Montevideo has taken a giant leap from the technologies of the 1950s to those of the 21st century, for it now offers free Internet access to their patrons and linking to each other and the world. Werner recounts the origin of the network, stressing that despite the miniscule and outdated library reference collections, public libraries and library professionals have managed to provide equal access to information literacy to the public.
