Summary:[SYNOPSIS] Objectives: Despite the various reports above on dental resin monomers, there have been no comprehensive evaluations of genetic and cellular toxicity. Therefore, the objective on this study was revealed molecular profiling of dental resin monomers effects on the cells by microarray analysis. Methods: The gene expression of cells exposed to one of the most major dental resin monomer, methylmethacrylate (MMA) at IC50 concentration was comprehensively analyzed using microarrays at three time points: at 2H after exposure; at 12H after exposure, when cells were not proliferating; and at 36H after exposure, when cells had probably started proliferating. Results and Significance: 3-fold change and more up-regulated or down-regulated genes at either time points in the k-means cluster analysis, 28 genes screened in the DNA microarray were evaluated as expression genes. The present experiment had a strong element of screening with microarrays, being able to evaluate gene changes with MMA over time by taking advantage of the ability to exhaustively analyze a large number of genes was very beneficial.
