Urinary kallikrein and prostaglandin E2 excretion before and after operation in adrenal and renal hypertensive patients
To investigate the levels of renal vasodepressor substances and their relationship to various vasopressor substances in adrenal and renal hypertension, urinary kallikrein (UKaI) and prostaglandin E2 (UPGE2), plasma renin activity (PRA), aldosterone (PAC), cortisol (PCC), and norepinephrine (PNEC) we...

Summary: | To investigate the levels of renal vasodepressor substances and their relationship to various vasopressor substances in adrenal and renal hypertension, urinary kallikrein (UKaI) and prostaglandin E2 (UPGE2), plasma renin activity (PRA), aldosterone (PAC), cortisol (PCC), and norepinephrine (PNEC) were measured in the pre-and post-operative course of 18 patients. In primary aldosteronism, PAC fell to less than normal and PRA remained in lower than normal after the operation. UKaI decreased from higher levels to normal or below normal levels after the operation. UPGE2 was within normal range before the operation, and slightly reduced after the operation. In Cushing's syndrome, PCC decreased to less than normal after the operation. PRA and PAC measured normal or less than normal, and did not show any marked change before or after the operation. UKaI and UPGE2 decreased from a range between normal and slightly higher than normal to regular or below regular readings after the operation. In pheochromocytoma, PNEC was normalized after the operation. PRA and PAC were normal or above before the operation, and normal or less after the operation. Although UKaI was in a wide range between low and high levels before and after the operation, the post-operative values were lower than the pre-operatives. UPGE2 also showed a wide variety of measurements before the operation, and became normal or less after the operation. In renovascular hypertension, the blood pressure normalized after the operation even though both PRA and PAC were within normal range before the operations These post-operative values were normal ?or less than normal. UKa1 diminished from normal to less than normal after the operam tion. Although UPGE2 was normal or less than normal before and after the operation, the postoperative levels were slightly lower than the pre-operatives. These results were reviewed referring to the literatured. |
