Summary: | The in vivo effects of a water product supplemented with platinum (Pt) nanocolloid (PtW) showing in vitro antioxidant activity were studied by monitoring blood and urine components from healthy human subjects who ingested PtW. For comparison, the effects of another water product containing dissolved hydrogen gas (H2) molecules were also examined in a similar manner. Under the conditions employed, serum lipid peroxide concentrations and urinary 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels relative to creatinine did not significantly change after consumption of these products. A transient but significant increase in serum alanine aminotransferase activity (hepatic disturbance marker) was observed immediately after ingestion of PtW. Data for serum and urine Pt quantitation appeared to suggest that Pt nanocolloid was scarecely absorbed, although the extent of absorption could not be evaluated due to the absence in the corresponding samples of Pt with concentrations beyond the determination limit. In consideration of these results, we point out the possibility that a trace amout of Pt nanocolloid particles in PtW was absorbed into the blood causing some pathological changes in hepatic functions. |
