Summary:Clinical use and evaluation of macrolide antibiotic TMS-19-Q·GC tablet in acute infections in the field of oral surgery has been carried out. The tablet was administered to 24 patients with oral infection at daily dose of 600mg (200mg x3). Patients entered into the trial were consisted of 11 cases of periodontitis, 2 ceses of pericoronitis and 11 cases of ostitis. Clinical efficacy was excellent in 4. 2%, good in 54. 2% and poor in 41.7%. No side effect was observed without one case of mild diarrhoea. A total of 19 strains of bacteria, α-Streptococcus 12, anerobes 5 and others 2, were isolated from the pus. These strains were all susceptible to TMS-19-Q except B. catarrhalis giving MIC value of 6. 25μg/ml. The MICs against α-Streptococcus were compared with those of JM, MDM, EM, ABPC and CEX and the activity of TMS-19-Q was almost same as those of EM and ABPC. In conclusion, it was revealed that TMS-19-Q·GC tablet was effective for oral infections.
